Forton is indeed a superior material to anything else I have used... BUT, where I live (New Zealand) it is very expensive... about 5 times the price of USG gypsum products. Even if one uses less of it, it is still a very significant cost for a small business like mine. This why I have experimented with PVA glue... Altough I have not achieved strenght similar to what Forton can do, I have a slurry that is very easy to apply on open molds, a thin layer is sufficient and the surface is completely scratch resistant...
I still use Forton for larger projects, or for outdoor projects...
