Topic Subject : RE: Re: Plaster turning moldy - HELP

Hi there

I have never had mould on casts in five years.....I think the key is to
allow the plaster cast to stay out of a box, ie don't keep it trapped in a
tupperware container etc until it is completly finished and painted etc.

I do keep old casts in plastic boxes with tight fitting lids, but then I put
a small pack or two of Silica gell in with the casts and so far so good.
Once they are painted, varnished etc they are fine.

Helen

------------Silica-Free & Oh So GREEN------->

NEW! MoldGel SILFREE. A revolutionary formula.
Made with all food-grade ingredients. It nourishes
the earth when discarded. 3-to-1 mix ratio yields
twice the volume as those 1-to-1 brands. Delayed
shrinkage for delayed casting - so creamy smooth, too.

Re: Plaster turning moldy - HELP:--
Hi Nancy
I had this exact problem when i did my first 2d hands and i was advised to
brush it all over with bleach within the first few days of doing the cast up
to a week or so later. So far so good! I think that for any large quantity
of stone, this will happen. I have just done my first life casting of my
bestfriends breasts and i assume exactly the same thing will happen so i am
about to do the same thing. Will be interesting to see if anyone else has
any other ideas. Goodluck, Ali :)
