Topic Subject : Re: runnels |

Tri,
I leave my molds to drain upside down for a period of time. As the alginate shrinks during setting it squeezes out some of the moisture. I know most alginates are supposed to be cast into very soon after taking the mold but I have left them to drain for varying times (from an hour or two for babies hands to overnight for larger molds) with no noticable shrinkage.
Also when casting I use the method of pouring in some plaster, 'sloshing' it around and emptying it out again. This seems to remove most of the moisture that is sitting on the surface of the mold.
I am by no means an expert but have gleaned this advice from posts made here and other websites/books and my casts no longer suffer from runnels (they all did when I first started).
Hope this helps
Dean
