Hi michelle, first of all it depends where you are as my info may be useless to you if your in another country or too far away from my wholesaler. I currently use a wholesaler for all of my materials including shadow boxes. I use gesso to seal, i wait 4 weeks at least until i do this, then couple of coats of paint. Im in the process of tryign different techniques of applying paint ie air brush etc, this has been the best so far with keeping the detail. Some other people may have some helpful hints for you though aswell. Try everything! I havnt quite cracked a silver paint that i am happy with yet, the gold paint that i use is oil based and is great dosnt leave brush marks and can be applied with a paint brush. Its called gold leaf, i think its the closest paint colour that comes to the real gold leaf colour. Let me know where you are and if i can help you anymore then i will. Ali
