Topic Subject : Re: guitar player's hand |

Ann, You may be able to fashion a type of casting shell or
box around the left hand as well as part of the neck of the guitar. Just
make sure that the box has a very solid connection to avoid movement.
You may even get part of another guitar to cast with to avoid using an
entire instrument. Skin safe silicone may even be an option. Also, as
you mentioned, there are many ways that the hand could be positioned.
Of course, since the guitarist is a professional, they should be able to
hold their hand in position without the guitar and the hand could later
be attached to the guitar. Unfortunately, this would leave the
fingertips without any impressions of the strings. Some resin
can be demolded quickly after pouring and remains kinda rubbery. At this
time it could be slipped over the neck and when completely cures will
shrink and fit to the guitar. Assuming that it doesn't break when taking
from the mold. I would make sure that you have pleanty of seams. Whenever
I have cast a hand holding anything, I cut holes in either side of the
box where the object will be inserted. I then put a plastic bag in the
box and cut holes in that as well. I use rubber bands to hold the bag
tightly to keep the alginate from leaking. I know it sounds primitive
but it is cheap and does a pretty good job. Hope this helps. Good luck.. Matt
