A better idea maybe..
Place a sheet of plastic or something under the strings so there is
no space between strings and neck. This way you'll capture the
strings but not have algy wasted and torn up pulling it out from
behind them.
I'm not a frequent algy user but i'd mix it on the thicker side so
it'll stay where placed and just build up around the hand and neck
and cut it with a butterknife.
