Topic Subject : Casting problem |
|
Hi
I would really appreicate some advice on casting a girls foot in a ballet shoe. I tried yesterday and it didn't work too well. I put nivea on her leg and also on the shoe. She did hold her foot in quite a straight line but when trying to get her foot out, although she managed to release her foot from the alginate within the mould we had great trouble getting her heel out. So much so that the aginate split around her ankle (so it was like a large doughnut).
Once I got her out(She was very patient, both her mother and father holding her down while I held on to the mould!!)
As the alginate fitted back into the plastic container I had used I decided to cast the foot anyway just incase it was repareable. There was quite a lot of damage around the ankle area which I possibly could have repaired but the main problem turned out to be that the toe end of the shoe seemed to have sagged quite a bit and did not look good at all.
I have had and idea to cast just the girls foot without the ballet shoe and then put the shoe on the plaster cast and do a rubber mould from that. To make sure the ribbbon that ties the shoe onto the foot looks right on the final casting I was going to tie ribbon round her foot before casting in aginate so the indentations hopefullly will look right.
another idea would be to put the alginate onto her foot (as in casing a torso) and the make a jacket with plaster bandage, But I would need to do the jacket in two pieces or I will never get it off. So I worried about the time it would take.
Sorry for such a long post but I really need to get this sorted as I had have a lot of interest from the ballet school teacher to promote this as a service as she is trying to raise funds for her school . Oh...another question. what sort of commission would be usual for me to give her for any referrals she gives me.
Thanks to you all in advance
Ann
