I agree, CJ. Too much science sucks the fun right out of it.
Fluff the powder and mix 1:1 alginate to water or water to alginate- JUST MIX THOROUGHLY- (I add water to alginate) Season to taste as my mother used to say. I like a consistency like yogurt. It's really not that exacting...
By the way, I also use cotton as the attachment between alginate and mother mold and I absolutely swear by pre-made plaster gauze! I use BSN extra fast set (formerly Johnson and Johnson)
There is NOT a right way and a wrong way to do this stuff. What's RIGHT is what's right for you and gives you the results you want.
