Topic Subject : Re: Re: Alginate volume

Ann

I think Dave will concur that adding alginate to water rather than water
into alginate will provide a less lumpy mix along with using a "jiffy" type
of mixer in a drill motor at medium speed for about 45-60 seconds. It should
also apply to mixing any type of plaster for back up mold or casting, add
powder into water and mix.

My normal mix ratio is 30% alginate to 70% water or 50/50 by volume in two
separate containers and then mix the powder into the water. From that
ration/volume I can then determine my consistency and change my mix according to
size of impression if need be. Also changing the water temperature will
affect set time up or down. Colder water will slow the set, warmer will
expedite the set.
