Again, I would call upon the experience of Dave Parvin. I visited his studio and he gave me a great tip. You could use silicone rubber to make a replica mold, but there are some little "locators" that Dave invented to imbed in the rubber that helps make sure that the new plaster mother mold you will apply is always in the same spot. These actually look almost like the rubber nipples from baby bottles but with a little difference. Im sure if you contact dave he would be happy to let you know about these. This eliminates the mold shifting or being located in the wrong spot and allows for the plaster mold to always be located correctly I have used these in a couple of reproductions that you are talking about and it works great. I also find that it is helpful to use an accelerator in the silicone to speed the process up. I have been using MoldMax 30 and it seems to work fine, but Im sure that there are others out there that work as well also.
Make sure tha the rubber mold is thick enough to not rip or tear and then apply the plaster shell . Once you have this done you should have a mold that you can use over and over again and get consistent results.
