Topic Subject : Re: Intro & quick question |

Hello Dean,
I thought I'd try and answer your question since no-one else (more experienced) has yet. I've done a few casts attaching them to a marble base. I actually used a silicone for one of my own childrens. There are silicones specifically for marble although I just used the type that you might use to fill in the edge around the bath! I've carried the cast around to all sorts of places in my sample case and it hasn't yet dropped off! I think it would probably be better though to use a strong clear glue such as an epoxy resin- the type where you mix the two together. That's what I use to attach my hand and feet castings to wooden bases and also to attach them inside the deep frame presention boxes I also use. Rough up the surfaces to be glued with a knife or rough sandpaper.
Perhaps you could advise me too!?? I also posted a question but as yet no reply :( I'm interested to hear from someone who also does children hand casts as this is what I do! I have a problem though with babies wiggling their fingers and toes as it ruins the alginate mould. I would be interested to hear what type of alginate you use and where I might buy some to try too.
Funnily enough last night I also cast my own 7 and a half month pregnant belly!! What fun. It was actually my 3rd attempt as the other 2 times the alginate was too runny and most of it ran off. This time i used the same amount in volume of alginate to water and it was better but probably could have done with being a bit thicker.
