Topic Subject : Re: Re: Re: Baby casts

Vikki,
Can not help you with the availability of MoldGel SilFree in the UK. Obviously, you will have to use whatever is available to you. I can tell you from experience that Mouldlife, which is made in the UK, makes excellent products as well.

I get absolutely bubble free castings right down to the finger tips. The casting material makes no difference, Forton MG, resins, or gypsum products such as plaster, hydrocal, hydostone, etc., all work just fine. The secrete is to use both vacuum and pressure chambers in the mold making and the casting processes. The complete story on how to do this is is too long for this Forum. However, I have a series of four articles available in the ALI Library which cover the theory and use of both pressure and vacuum. If you will glance over the articles, I would be glad to write a description of how I specifically cast bubble free baby's hands and feet and submit it to the library. By the way, molding hand and feet directly on the infant in fast setting, thixotropix, skin safe, platinum cured silicone rubbers such as the ones you mentioned would not help much as I will explain later. Since I have no shame, I will mention that this whole subject will also be covered in my next workshop April 29 through May 3, 2013.
