Topic Subject : Introduction and purpose

Hi all,
My name is Bob May and I have just become a member here at ALI.
I am not much of a sculptor and have only done a few things with life casting.
I am a wood worker mostly and an artist by temperment I guess.
My reason for this post and for joining your group is for ideas and encouragement, I guess.
I recently ( about two years ago) made a copy carver from plans on the internet and
made some copy carvings of small statues and my hand and a sculpture of a girl carved from a half rotten log.
It bothered me that Icould not do smaller versions and thought about it for about 2 years. I finally came up with how to make a reducing carver and began working on it a few weeks ago only to find out it had been done in 1844 by Benjamin Cheverton.
No matter, "there is nothing new under the sun."
My idea is to make masks, torsos, etc. but in reduced size out of nice hardwoods, or maybe even soft stone etc. My machine is capable of carving 1/2 or 1/3 scale.
I have a few photos on my esnips account.

I would appreciate any suggestions and comments about my ideas, any of your ideas, and tips on a cheap, yet safe method of life casting.
At this point I am on a very limited budget being out of work for medical reasons.

Nice to meet you all, Bob
