Topic Subject : Re: A new topic has been added-plaster mold releas & cleaners

every cast I ever do in resin out of plaster or fibre glass
after the release in the case of plaster I always use bees wax then I talc
any talc you like johnsons baby powder smells nice it was shown to me by an
old film plasterer it stops the gell goat skidding and running down and it
stops that sticky ness you some times get ,I have been fibre glassing for 38
yrs so I work quite hot eg doubling my catalists or more this stops the
dampness in the plaster inhibiting the set of the resin ,but you have to
move a bit faster ,apply plenty of talc then brush out all the excess ,and
the beauty is it never sticks
hope this helps
go safely
John

------------Silica-Free & Oh So GREEN------->

NEW! MoldGel SILFREE. A revolutionary formula.
Made with all food-grade ingredients. It nourishes
the earth when discarded. 3-to-1 mix ratio yields
twice the volume as those 1-to-1 brands. Delayed
shrinkage for delayed casting - so creamy smooth, too.

plaster mold releas & cleaners:--
While we're on the subject

I'm trying to find a way to caste polyester resin in the plaster body molds
and not have an oily residue left over on or in the resin.
Sometimes it's not cost effective to do a whole body caste using silicone
but I'm having trouble finding a mold release that actually works or using
oil base products and find oil residue seeping through the final finish.

I've tried spray silicone, it doesn't work & we have to pry the pieces out.
We've tried petroleum jelly and cholesterol and the pieces detach easily but
they don't clean up. We've used mineral spirits, dish soap, degreasers

acetone, dishwasher detergents and still find oil residue seeping out of the
resin weeks later.

Any ideas?
