I do hand castings for hospice patients. I have found that usually you ca=
n
move the patient far enough to the edge of the bed to allow their hand to
hang over the side. The siblings will be a little uncomfortable stooping =
or
nealing next to the bed during the cast but normally they wont mind! Bles=
s
you for doing this for their family! They will cherish it forever!!!=0D

Made with all food-grade ingredients. It nourishes=0D

Hi There=0D
=0D
=0D
What a heart wrenching cast to have to take. I feel for the family and f=
or=0D
you.=0D
=0D
I take casts with hands perpendicular quite often, but have never done so=
=0D
for a large group. When I take mine this way it is because it is a baby w=
ho=0D
is breastfeeding and can't be moved. Can you try a J-cloth? I am not su=
re=0D
what they are called in America, a soft dish cloth, the type you throw aw=
ay=0D
after a few uses.=0D
=0D
You might be able to put a layer of alginate on the cloth and bring that =
up=0D
to the underside of the hands, getting help to hold it in place. You mig=
ht=0D
need several cloths to do this. You can then put more alginate on top of=
=0D
the hands and work it into the creases etc. The bottom cloth should stop =
too=0D
much from dropping off, but be sure to cover the furniture etc underneath=
=0D
where you are taking the cast.=0D
=0D
You might even be able to put the cloth with the alginate on it on a tall=
=0D
table and get the family to arrange thier hands on this so one-one gets t=
oo=0D
tired holding the cloths in place? If you make the alginate deep enough =
and=0D
ask them not to put too much pressure on the table then you should get a=0D
good cast. You can then pop the alginate on top as suggested above.=0D
=0D
Hope this is of help. Let us know how you get on.=0D

urgent help needed:--=0D
For a handcasting of a boy who is dying of brain cancer-he cannot sit up =
so=0D
I cannot get his hand and arm perpendicular to the bucket of alginate (al=
ong=0D
with his 3 siblings). Because of this, Ill have to do this peice with th=
e=0D
hands lying flat, with each person holding the others wrist, which will=0D
almos make a square. I want the front and back of the hands, not just th=
e=0D
top half, and I dont want any plaster backing to be attached. How do I d=
o=0D
this? The appt is this afternoon-they called this morning to tell me he=0D
