Las Crusix
by Ed McCormick
Mixed Media
From the artist's Woman's Issue Series Las Crusis is the Latin term not only for cross, but for torment or trouble; a symbol of grave abuse. Aptly named, this sculptural work is representative of the long history of women’s abuse. The iconography is evocative of the purest of hearts also in service of man. Yet, as in the religious story 2,000 years ago where man’s ignorance, fear and need for control was responsible for the death of the innocent preacher for peace, many women still bear the nearly identical burden in this world. Bound by the ropes of tradition and culture, they suffer in silence even in the most civilized of societies. This sculpture is meant to jar the viewer into the realization that all of us may not be so free and equal. What can we do to help?

LifeCast
Lifecast taken of my 6 month old niece holding my sisters finger. Captured during that dozy period after a feed. It was the first time I had seen my sister in 3 years, so this piece will be a reminder of that time. Permanent mold made with silicone, cold cast bronze finish
